Hi, there!  Welcome to Jisho Joshu, the dictionary assistant app!

This app will help you with your Japanese reading by highlighting words that you might not know and providing a quick way to look up the definition. It's an interactive way to get started reading native Japanese material!

It's not an SRS or any sort of lesson plan.  Jisho Joshu simply makes it easier to look up words while you're reading and save a vocab list to study later.  The rest is up to you!

Just paste in some Japanese text and click Analyze to see a breakdown of words.  You can hover over any of them to see the definition as well as links to WaniKani and Jisho.  Try it with online news, manga, or a social media post from your Japanese friend.

Your assistant, Jiko (the Jisho Joshu Joshi), will highlight which words you may not know based on the WaniKani level you put in.  If you're not using WaniKani, don't worry!  Just leave it at level 1 or guess a level based on how many kanji you know (add 1 level per 35 kanji known).

Jisho Joshu is free to use!  If you like the app and want to support it, you can buy the standalone version below.  All proceeds go toward funding the cloud translation bills and buying snacks for Jiko.

Now let's get reading!

Thank you for making this, it's really helpful! I want to do more reading practice on places like easy NHK but vocab I don't know always makes me feel frustrated and unable to continue. Now i finally feel like I can practice in peace!

Will there be a mobile release?

I'm super glad you're using the application!  Unfortunately I don't think a mobile release is in the cards for this one since very few people actually ended up using it and I'd have to pretty radically change the layout to make it scalable.  If you need an online tool that works on mobile (but is arguably waaaay less cute) you can try https://ichi.moe/

GOD WHY IS SHE SO CUTE.  Also great program!  My only problem is that the resolution of my laptop is downright low so I couldn't see the bottom part of the program.  Is there anyway I could resize it somehow?
